Republic Day Celebration

This year’s Republic Day was very eventful and perhaps one of the most memorable one for the Pankhudi family, kids and their parents. A total of almost 130 people, inclusive of Lions Club Members and volunteers had assembled to celebrate the day.

Shahzad started off :)

Shahzad kicked off the event with his introductory speech followed by Saraswati Vandana and lighting of lamps by the guest from Lions Club. The latent talent of public speaking in Wilson and Kalpesh was evident through their bold speech before the public, without looking into the script. It was especially surprising for the volunteers who had given them just 1 hour to prepare and very little coaching.

The confidence imbibed in these kids through Pankhudi classes was clearly reflected in the words of the song ‘Hum Honge Kamyab‘, which they enthusiastically sang. To give the function a patriotic touch, there were songs and dances pertinent to the Republic Day theme. The kids energetically rocked their feet to the tunes of ‘Masti ki Paathshala’ , but vibrations were strong enough to set the volunteers also dancing after the program. Thanks to the volunteers who had ensured that the kids knew the national anthem verbatim and before the function concluded, everyone sang it with full pride.

In order to acknowledge and appreciate their devotion in the class and participation in the function, the kids were gifted geometry boxes, coloring books etc. I guess nothing else could have made their day any brighter.

But there was one thing that everyone including the parents, guests and kids had waited for; the snacks! It was very satiating to have wada pav, frooti and tea after two hours of function.

The Republic day celebration proved to be a blessing as we were able to understand the kids’ talents in a better fashion and facing the audience imparted a “CAN DO” spirit in the kids. Additionally, the parents realized that every volunteer was committed to making their kids happy by making learning fun.

The impact of the function was direct! In the very next class on Saturday, 31st Jan, the attendance of junior batch shot up to roughly 25 kids from barely 10; with a few new faces. I wish the same trend picks up for the seniors.

Hats off to all the Pankhudi volunteers for making the event a grand success! We deeply felt the absence of Swati, Aditi, Pooja, Sonam, Amit, Ashish, Yogesh, Sameeksha, Shivani and all other volunteers and had they been present, the function could have been even more delightful.

A Workshop Cum Way To Learn, Excel and Inculcate

The Thought Of Flying High In Life!

To create an awareness towards science and in general towards studies among children, Udaan- an aerospace group supported by Aerospace department of IIT Bombay conducted a rich workshop for Pankhudi children on Sunday -19th Oct at 2.00pm at Suman Nagar, Mumbai. This was a 4 - 5 hrs totally interactive and learning-cum-fun workshop.

Udaan Objective: To motivate children towards engineering (not only aerospace) and other technological activities, so that later in the life when the kids meet different people they know something about others’ background, and hence to excel and build their networks.

To know more about please visit:

~Pankhudi Objective: We are keen in motivating the kids towards the basic education that they should have in their life. And so by keeping this workshop we can ask them to work sincerely to achieve what they aim to become later in their life.

The Basic structure of the Workshop was like this:

PPT / Video session:

This was a video screening session, where general basic Aero-modeling and mechanics was described. Also they planned to show some videos related to actual flights (like Rocket Launch by NASA, it was just an example not really the same).

Paper Plane workshop:

This was an interactive session, where they taught them how to build paper planes in new innovative ways, and then ask them to make it.

Water Rocket Demonstration:

A Water-Rocket demonstration was held. Basic logic was that, they pressurize air inside a half filled Glass -Bottle (with water) and then release it, this actually rises to a decent enough height.

QA and General Information/ Logic:

Most important session of the event. Here the Udaan team tried to answer their doubts and gave them few (or many) logics or ideas about how to achieve their goals and excel in their life.

After that our kids shared their experiences and gave token of love on behalf of ~Pankhudi..

So, this was All about the workshop. On The Behalf Of ~Pankhudi Mumbai Chapter we thank Udaan for the extraordinary support and enthusiasm for motivating our kids To Join, Participate, Support And Enjoy The New way Of Learning.

Thanks :)

~Pankhudi Protsahan Classes

Pankhudi’s Mumbai chapter is running slum teaching initiative “Protsahan” at Sumannagar slum in Kurla.

We are targetting to impart english, elementary maths and lifeskills to the slum children. The enrolled students for Protsahan classes are divided in 2 batches: junior batch and senior batch.

The junior batch consists of 35 students who are from class 1- class 5th. This is the main focus category of the children as per Pankuhdi’s goals of Primary education.

The senior batch consists of students from class 5th onwards (uptill 10th). We hold 6 days a week classes in sumanagar at the prmises of Lions Club. The classes timings are 6:30pm -8:30pm. Monday is kept off.

For the protsahan classes, we typically require 3 volunteers per class and we work on a planned weekly schedule. Thus the volunteer requirement is quite high.

The Content cell of Pankhudi Foundation plans to release its much awaited curriculum for the children in the month of June’08. We are looking forward for it.
